A letter from Sharon Crout reminding employees that protecting the privacy of our patients is everyone’s job.
HIPAA REMINDER:
With the COVID-19 now in our community, please remember that we are still governed by HIPAA Privacy Rules to protect the privacy of our patients. We are all concerned about the health and safety of our community, and while you may believe that you are disclosing information to prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat, we are legally bound to maintain the privacy of our patients.
Keep in mind also if you have friends or family members that are being treated, it is a violation of FHP’s policies and federal and state regulations to access their EMR, or discuss any patient information outside of the scope of your job duties.
While you may be anxious to obtain results about a patient, any medical information will be delivered directly by our providers. We do not tolerate snooping in the EMR, no matter the reason.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our Privacy and Compliance Department directly by calling either Robin Fowler (907-978-0874) or Sharon Crout (x72899). Protecting the privacy of our patients is everyone’s job and we appreciate your diligence in doing so.
Sharon Crout
