Fairbanks Memorial Hospital operates a combined Intensive Care (ICU) and Telemetry Unit to support the advanced care needs of critically ill patients.
The only ICU in Alaska’s interior, we offer 24-hour-a-day, on-site physician coverage and have a nurse-to-patient ratio of one to three.
With state-of-the-art monitoring technologies and highly skilled nurses, many of whom are certified in critical care nursing, we deliver exceptional care that follows the guidelines established by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Telemetry Patients requiring specialized heart monitoring while in the hospital stay in the combined Intensive Care/Telemetry Unit. Each patient typically wears a heart monitor which is a small box that weighs less than one pound. It sends continuous heart rate and rhythm information to monitors at the nurses’ station where the information is observed and evaluated.
Hours: General visiting hours are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To access the ICU, please call from the phone located outside the unit before entering.
After Hours: All doors to the building are secured at 8:00 p.m. After hours, visitors may use the Emergency Department entrance.
For the safety of your loved ones, visitors are required to wash their hands with disinfectant soap or sanitize hands prior to entering and after leaving the patients room. Please do not visit a patient if you have a cough, cold or other signs of illness.
The number of visitors is dependent on the needs and comfort of the patient. We respect our patients’ right to determine who may or may not visit. Due to space limitations within our rooms, we recommend no more than two visitors at a time.
Visitation by children less than 12 years of age is discouraged, unless there is a parent/child relationship with the patient.
Due to the special environment of the ICU, we prefer not to have fresh flowers or live plants--but silk arrangements, non-latex balloons and other items of encouragement are welcome.
