Fairbanks Memorial Hospital
I am a dual US-UK citizen, born in Brighton England to a British mother and American dad, and immigrated here when I was six. Before I became a nurse, I worked in basic science research, which while mentally challenging, was too far removed from the people it is intended to help. Although the hospital can be a bit hectic at times, what we as healthcare providers do here is a readily appreciable good: the comfort we provide, the access to healing and health. Regardless of what that place is, I always try to meet the patient where they are, listening and asking appropriate questions to demonstrate that they have been heard. I also, as often as possible, attempt to give patients control over how their healthcare goes, i.e. choice of when, where, and how a procedure is performed, and encourage patient participation in their care.
Interests & Activities
I like the cold, so I love Alaska; it's beautiful and adventure is right in our backyard. When I'm outdoors I will be kayaking or cross country skiing. While indoors I enjoy reading, knitting and counted cross-stitch.
