Good health is not determined solely by the quality of services delivered by health care professionals. To truly promote health in Interior Alaska, FHP engages more broadly in the community and partners with others to craft joint and sustainable solutions.

To be eligible for non-profit tax-exempt status, hospitals must document provision of community benefit. The 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires tax-exempt hospitals to have a written financial aid policy, conduct Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNAs) every three years, develop associated Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIPs), and to report annually on actions taken.

Community Benefit Planning Cycle 

FHP's most recent needs assessment was completed in December 2022. During the spring of 2023, FHP developed an improvement plan to be implemented during the 2023-2025 three-year period.
