The Pathology Department utilizes the most up-to-date immunohistochemically and molecular diagnostic techniques, provides a full-service flow cytometry laboratory, and performs direct immunofluorescence studies.
Pathology Experts
The Anatomic Pathology Department includes board-certified pathologists. The pathologists work closely with pathology assistants, pathology technicians, histotechnologists, laboratory assistants, transcriptionists and pathology office staff to bring comprehensive, timely diagnostic services to patients, as well as providing expert consultative services to the outside community.

We work closely with our clinical colleagues in surgery and radiology, participate at tumor boards, and collaborate with breast cancer teams. Breast cancers are tested for prognostic and therapeutic markers to allow the oncologist to treat the patient with the most precise anti-tumor medications.
Cytopathology
Fairbanks Memorial cytopathology testing provides diagnoses on fine needle aspiration (FNA) specimens of all body sites including pancreas, liver, and lung, as well as body fluid specimens. We also interpret specimens obtained by endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic bronchoscopic ultrasound (EBUS).
Dermatopathology (Skin)
