Moderna Vaccine: The Moderna vaccine arrived in Alaska on this past Monday, Dec. 21, 2020.
Vaccine Similarity: The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are similar. Both use messenger RNA technology (mRNA), both are highly effective, and both require two doses spaced apart. Both vaccines must be kept cold, Moderna must be shipped at -4° Fahrenheit and Pfizer at -94° Fahrenheit.
Alaska Allocations: As of Dec. 22, almost 9,000 vaccinations have been administered in Alaska. Initial allocations from Pfizer and Moderna include enough to vaccinate 61,900 people. Learn more about the plan to vaccinate all Alaskans here.
Positive Alaskans: On Tuesday, Dec. 22, 426 Alaskans tested positive for COVID-19. Of those, 50 were younger than 19 and 233 were between the ages of 20-49. There were 126 that were aged 50 and older. There were 10 deaths.
