Profile
Three-quarters of Dr. Lai's grandparents are physicians, so practicing medicine runs in her family. Her grandmother broke a lot of barriers, serving as a chief medical officer at a hospital in the 1970's, which inspired Dr. Lai to follow a career path in medicine. The ability to work with her hands and help patients through therapeutic touch led her to the osteopathic manipulative medicine specialty.
She believes that active listening is crucial to any doctor-patient relationship and helps build trust. To Dr. Lai, trust fosters a healing environment especially in the OMM specialty. She likes that in Fairbanks OMM is not considered a last resort for treatment and wants to help patients more immediately and not after they have exhausted more traditional medical options.
