Vaccine Registrations for Alaskans 65+: Registration for the COVID-19 vaccine opened today for Alaskans aged 65+. The State/DHSS allotted 750 vaccines to help vaccinate the community’s seniors. Appointments for these vaccines were filled in less than two hours. FHP will be allotted additional vaccines from the State as they receive more. There are several locations in the community offering the vaccine to Interior seniors. Read more here.

VACCINE ALLOTMENTS: Alaska will receive another 52,900 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine this month (27,300 Pfizer and 25,600 Moderna).
VACCINE ELIGIBILITY: Alaska DHSS announced vaccine registration for those in Phase 1a, Tier 3. Individuals who fall within Tier 3 are primarily health care workers at risk for contracting COVID-19. This group can schedule a vaccination appointment here. (Vaccination clinics will not begin until January 4, 2021.) Review eligibility requirements here.

Moderna Vaccine: The Moderna vaccine arrived in Alaska on this past Monday, Dec. 21, 2020.
Vaccine Similarity: The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are similar. Both use messenger RNA technology (mRNA), both are highly effective, and both require two doses spaced apart. Both vaccines must be kept cold, Moderna must be shipped at -4° Fahrenheit and Pfizer at -94° Fahrenheit.

Moderna vaccines, state vaccination plan, COVID testing turn around times
The State of Alaska is receiving 26,800 Moderna vaccines this week. Click here to learn more about Alaska’s vaccination plan and vaccine availability.
In an effort to improve turnaround times on outpatient COVID-19 tests, FHP has established a partnership with Beach Tree Labs. Using currents labs, there are times when it takes upwards of a week to get results back to patients. Turnaround times with FHP (using Beach Tree) are averaging 1-2 days currently.

Moderna vaccine approved, Bring Back the Light event
New COVID-19 Vaccine: Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine received emergency use authorization yesterday, Friday, Dec. 18 and distribution of 5.9 million doses begins tomorrow, Dec. 20. Both Moderna and Pfizer's vaccines require two doses and proved to be 95 percent effective in protecting against COVID-19. Moderna’s vaccine doesn’t need to be stored at the ultra-cold temps like Pfizer. Learn more about Moderna’s vaccine here and here.
