Dr. McAfee is from Fairbanks and feels great pride in working at the hospital in which he was born. At Foundation Health Partners, Dr. McAfee feels like he is part of the community and a group of medical professionals who are all reaching toward a common goal of delivering the best possible care to our fellow Alaskans.

Taking anatomy and physiology courses as an undergrad sparked Dr. McAfee's interest in medicine. Rotating with some incredible doctors in the community and seeing how these physicians helped people day after day solidified his career path. The responsibility and privilege to take care of patients in the most vulnerable of times drew Dr. McAfee to anesthesiology. He feels fortunate to be the one who can perform a procedure, give a medication, or resuscitate a patient all in 'real time'. Dr. McAfee approaches every anesthetic with a calm presence, believing that surgery can be stressful and maintaining a calm attitude can alleviate patient fears. He also believes that including the patient in the decision making process empowers them and improves their satisfaction with the care.         

Interests & Activities

Dr. McAfee is practicing Anesthesiologist, part time welder and bus mechanic! He rents out school buses to Alaska forestry which they use to haul fire fighters around during our smoky summers. It is a fun side business he and friend started long ago while in undergrad studies at UAF. Otherwise, he enjoys spending time doing anything outdoors with his wife and three kids. You will find them hunting, fishing, snowmachining, hiking... the list goes on. The desire to continually learn to become a better physician inspires Dr. McAfee each day. He believes that the volume of medical knowledge is so vast that it's impossible to learn it all, hence the term 'practicing medicine'.
