Profile
Robert Barnard, M.Ed., LPC-S is a licensed professional counselor with the FHP Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic, practicing person centered, trauma informed care. He brings unconditional positive regard and cultural competence in every interaction with patients and clients. Assisting homeless people in downtown Fairbanks who just needed and wanted someone to listen, inspired Mr. Barnard to further his education to gain skills to help and talk to people. He was invited by the dean to enter the counseling program at UAF as a "late vocation" to the counseling field.
Robert believes that by treating the whole person, we can help make the person whole. He recognizes that many people with mental illness also have co-occurring substance use disorders, and uses evidenced based practices to treat both together. He strives to be a guide and companion to people in their journey with their lives and mental health.
Interests & Activities
Away from clinic, you can find Robert spending time with his family as much as possible, and he cherishes weekly date nights with his bride. He loves to read and is often reading multiple books at any given time. He is a retired musician that still loves to listen to and play music from time to time. He has played all over the world in culturally diverse musical environments, while also maintaining a private studio where he taught individual music lessons.
