Julia Franklin, MD
Tanana Valley Clinic
To Dr. Franklin, there is no such thing as a stranger and treating people with kindness is part of the fabric of her nature. Therefore, it was not a surprise to her family when, as a child, she professed her future career would be in medicine. She spent the first six years after graduating with her bachelor’s degree teaching high school science at an all-girls boarding school in Maryland. Knowing it was time to make her dream a reality, Dr. Franklin moved on from teaching and began her path to becoming a provider. As a child of an active duty service member, Dr. Franklin was born at Ft. Wainwright and spent her formative years moving around the country and internationally. It was through the lens of service – her father, active duty Army and her mother as a military spouse, coupled with a lot of moving, that she saw the world and developed her loves; travel and serving others. When making the decision about where to practice, Fairbanks was on the top of Dr. Franklin’s list. The ranking was based on a few factors, the most predominant being that her parents plan to retire to the community in a few years. In addition, she recognizes Fairbanks as the type of community she can grow in and the place where she can become immersed in local events and organizations.
