April Dunlevy, ACNP-BC first came to Alaska as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force in 2005. She served as a registered nurse in several capacities on Elmendorf, AFB until 2010, with a deployment to Joint Base Balad in Iraq from Feb. to Aug. of 2009. She earned her ACNP in 2012 and following several years working in a level 1 trauma center, Ms. Dunlevy returned to her 'first love' of cardiology in 2017. She worked for the Alaska Heart and Vascular Institute prior to joining Foundation Health Partners.
Ms. Dunlevy believes she is only one part of a patient-led team. She is dedicated to making the best choices with her patients for their desired lifestyle. She believes it's her job to do the best she can to ensure that patients understand their disease process and treatment options, and to assist them in making choices. Ms. Dunlevy loves helping people make small lifestyle changes that result in large lifestyle improvements.
Interests & Activities
Ms. Dunlevy is inspired every day by her children, calling them her "greatest achievement." She is always trying to learn something new either for work or as a hobby. She loves learning new things about people, languages and cultures, and if she doesn't know a language, she will usually try and learn at least 'hello' and 'thank you'. A self-described introvert, Ms. Dunleavy enjoys reading. She recently began learning blacksmithing, glass blowing and pottery, saying they are excellent activities for clearing away the stress of the day.
