Dr. Stewart Kerr is an accomplished orthopedic surgeon with board certification and specialized training in comprehensive spine surgery, orthopedic fracture-trauma reconstruction, and joint replacements. His commitment to achieving superior surgical outcomes involves optimizing all controllable factors before each operation. Dr. Kerr emphasizes active listening and provides thoughtful education to empower patients in selecting the most suitable treatment aligned with their individual health goals.
After completing his medical education at the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland, adjacent to the renowned National Institutes of Health (NIH), Dr. Kerr undertook his orthopedic surgery residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, widely recognized as Navy Medicine's most active teaching hospital.
Driven by his dedication to excellence, Dr. Kerr pursued advanced training through two prestigious fellowships. The first was a combined Neurosurgery/Orthopedic Spine Surgery Fellowship at the esteemed Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, where he received guidance from global leaders in the field of spinal surgery. Subsequently, he completed an Orthopedic Fracture and Trauma Reconstruction Fellowship at UCSF Fresno, which is renowned as California's busiest Level 1 Trauma Injury and Burn Center.
Having served as a decorated U.S. Navy combat veteran, Dr. Kerr possesses invaluable experience in wartime field surgery and tertiary medical center reconstruction. He frequently deployed overseas as a team surgeon for elite military units such as the Rangers, Delta Force, and SEAL Teams, providing medical support during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Prior to pursuing a career in medicine, Dr. Kerr served for eight years as a U.S. Navy SEAL after graduating from BUD/S Class #136.
Dr. Kerr's impressive professional background includes roles as the co-director of the Comprehensive Spine Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, and as academic teaching faculty for orthopedic surgery residents at the Naval Medical Centers in Portsmouth and San Diego. He serves as faculty for AO Spine and has made substantial contributions to the medical field through numerous published papers, textbook chapters, and wide-ranging lectures. Dr. Kerr also volunteers his expertise as a Diving (Hyperbaric) Medical Officer for the Diver's Alert Network and with the National Ski Patrol.
Originally from Seattle, Dr. Kerr and his wife Delaney cherish their shared moments outdoors, engaging in activities such as skiing, camping, and scuba diving. He also indulges in personal hobbies like fishing, cycling, hiking, remote travel, photography, and oil painting.
