Clinical Trials
The J. Michael Carroll Cancer Center offers cancer clinical trials through a program with the National Cancer Institute. This program allows us to have a partnership with Western States Cancer Research (NCORP).
Working together provides additional support and allows our community access to various clinical trials throughout the country. Current clinical trials available through NCORP can be found here.
JMCCC also connects with the U.S. National Library of Medicine database of privately and publicly funded clinical studies conducted around the world.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are clinical trials?
Clinical trials are research studies using volunteers to test the effectiveness of new cancer medications and therapies.
Why should I participate?
Clinical trials are an important option in the development of cancer care because it’s through research that treatment is perfected. Participation in the studies provides access to the latest approaches for cancer screening, treatments and medications with a goal of finding better ways to diagnose, treat and prevent cancer.
While you’re enrolled in a cancer clinical trial, your J. Michael Carroll Cancer Center doctor will still care for you, but will follow a strict protocol, or plan, to ensure accurate and consistent data.
Am I eligible?
There are many clinical trials available, and each one is designed differently. Eligibility is determined by various factors including your age, your cancer type and staging, previous treatments received and other medical concerns such as diabetes or heart disease.
How do I find out more?
Finding a trial, and then deciding which clinical trial is right for you takes careful consideration. If you’re interested in participating in a clinical trial in Fairbanks, ask your doctor or contact the Cancer Center’s Clinical Trial Research Nurse at 458-3043.
