Fairbanks Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Services offers a Balance Screening Program to help people identify issues with their mobility and balance that increase their risk of falling. The screenings are free of charge for anyone age 55 and older.

Rehabilitation Services can help you identify issues that are affecting your mobility and balance. Our balance screenings test strength, flexibility, vision, cognition, sensory integration, and balance.

Did you know:

  • 1 out of 5 falls causes serious injury such as broken bones or head trauma?
  • Falls are a leading cause of non-fatal hospitalizations in those 55 years and older?
  • The average cost of a fall is $80K for acute care services only?
  • Falls are the leading reason for loss of independence in Alaskan residents 55 years and older?

Do you feel unsteady when standing or walking?

Do you worry about falling?

Have you fallen in the last year?

It is important to not ignore signs of unsteadiness, imbalance or dizziness. It is imperative to tell a medical practitioner as soon as these issues arise. Fear of falling has been shown to significantly increase the risk of falling. In order to maintain an independent lifestyle longer, it is important to be proactive and reduce the risk of falling before it happens.
