The Project SEARCH School-to-Work Transition Program is a unique, business-led, one-year employment preparation program that takes place entirely at the workplace. As part of Fairbanks North Star Borough School District's Special Education programs, Project SEARCH serves individuals with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 22 who are currently served through an Individualized Education Plan. Candidates should be in their final year of eligibility for services.  High school seniors working toward a diploma will defer the diploma for one year while participating in the program.

Project SEARCH provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability and independent living skills to help youth with a variety of disabilities make successful transitions from school to productive adult life. Interns in this program participate in three unpaid internship experiences during the school year. With the help of the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, interns seek and obtain either part-time or full-time employment at the end of the program year.
